Joana Vasconcelos makes her first Portalegre tapestry to exhibit at Versailles Palace
The first Portalegre tapestry by the artist Joana Vasconcelos will begin to be woven on the 14th of December 2011, at 3.30 pm, in Portalegre Tapestry Manufacture (PTM).
The first Portalegre tapestry by the artist Joana Vasconcelos will begin to be woven on the 14th of December 2011, at 3.30 pm, in Portalegre Tapestry Manufacture (PTM).
The collaboration between the artist and the PTM begins with a 13 m2 large scale work, which will be on display in Joana Vasconcelos´ exhition in the Palace of Versailles, in June 2012.
Taking advantage of her trip to Caceres, Maria Cavaco Silva will visit the MTP and together with Josana Vasconcelos, will be present for the beginning of the weaving process of the before mentioned tapestry. In this occasion, six other original drawings that the artist made for Portalegre tapestry will also be shown.
PTM is one of the last places in the world dedicated to the rich and ancient art of wall tapesty.
In the last 60 years, over two hundred artists have worked with PTM, among them Almada Negreiros, Vieira da Silva, Júlio Pomar, Burle Marx, Lourdes Castro, Álvaro Siza, Rigo, Le Corbusier, Carlos Botelho and Munari.
