Cláudia Lima
Cláudia Lima was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, in 1956. As a child she studied art at the Children’s School Of Art at the Modern Art Museum of Rio de Janeiro. During this time, namely between 1961 and 1970 she took part in several collective exhibitions organised by the Museum or was selected to represent it in international exhibitions, as was the case in 1967 in a worldwide exhibition sponsored by the United Nations where she received a gold medal. She graduated from law school in 1979 but in 1980 she moved to Lisbon, where she attended ARCO in painting and design. She attended l’Ecole Nationale d’Art Decoratif, in Aubusson, France, with a Scholarship from the Gulbenkian Foundation. During 1984-1985 Since then she participated in several group and solo exhibitions in Portugal (Museu Tavares Proença, Museu de Viseu, Museu de Lamego, Museu de Évora, Museu do Traje) as well as abroad (Brasil, Angola, England, Denmark, Germany, Pollen, Hungary, Finland, Sweden and United States). Her work entitled “Nas Ondas da Lusofonia” was shown at the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries space at Expo 98, in Lisbon. She made several tapestries since her stay in Aubusson, using not only the traditional French technique but also the Arraiolos embroidery. One of her textile works integrated the 11th International Triennial of Tapestry at the Central Museum of Textiles - Lódz (Pollen), in 2004. Her collaboration with the Portalegre Tapestries Manufacture starts in 2012.
