Maria João Franco

Maria João Franco (1945 – ) was born in Leiria, Portugal. She studied painting at the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon, and attended the course of architecture of the School of Fine Arts of Oporto. Her first individual exhibition was held in 1985, in Cascais. She was awarded the Issue Prize at the IV National Exhibition of Engraving, held by GRAVURA and the Caloust Gulbenkian Foundation, and the first prizes at the Engraving contest integrated in the European Year of the Environment, at Setúbal / Beauvais. She is represented in the collection of the Setúbal Museum and Caixa Geral de Depósitos, among others. Her collaboration with Portalegre’s Tapestry began in 1991.
