Luís Pinto-Coelho

Luis Pinto-Coelho (1942 – 2001) was born in Lisbon. He studied painting and sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon. In 1961, he moved to Madrid where he lived until his death. He was a fellow of the Gulbenkian Foundation. He participated in numerous collective exhibitions and held 54 individual exhibitions. He painted the portrait of King Juan Carlos I of Spain, the Portuguese General, Ramalho Eanes, and Prince Albert of Monaco. Besides easel-painting, Pinto-Coelho produced work in ceramic, mural painting, sculpture, scenography, decoration and design, tapestry, and engraving. He began collaborating with Portalegre’s Tapestry in 1984.
