Manuel Cargaleiro

He was born in Vila Velha de Rodão, in 1927. He enrolled in the Course of Geographic Sciences, but he decided to leave it to become an artist. His first works were in ceramics, and his first exhibition was in 1952. Only after doing important work for public spaces in this area, he started to exhibit painting, in Paris, in 1963. He is represented in many important museums. He is the author of the ceramic panels in the metro stations “Champs Elysees/Clemenceau” in Paris and “Colégio Militar/Luz” in Lisbon. In 2004 he opened the “Museo Artistico Industriale Manuel Cargaleiro”, in Vietri sul Mare, Salerno, Italy, where he has his own studio. He has started working with the Portalegre Tapestries Manufacture during 1976.
