Tom Phillips

Artist, writer and composer, he was born in London, where he lives and works. He is an internationally recognized artist and member of the Royal Academy. His work is present in collections and museums all around the world. One of his best known works is the book “Hummument” as well as his work about Dante’s “Inferno” witch he translated and illustrated (as a co-director of the TV version he was awarded the Itália prize). Several retrospective exhibitions took place on both sides of the Atlantic, including the National Portrait Gallery, the Yale Center, the Royal Academy, the Musée d’Art Moderne and the Dulwich Picture Gallery. As a composer he wrote the Opera “Irma”, which was unregistered several times as well as the suite for canto “Six of Hearts”. Among his projects for the theatre we can emphasize designing “The Winter Tale” for the opening of the season at the Shakespare’s Globe Theater as well as translating and designing “Otello” for the English National Opera, in 1998. He is a “trustee” at the National Portrait Gallery and the British Museum. His Collaboration with the Portalegre Tapestries Manufacture started during 1981.
